Santiago orPenonomé:
Whether you choose the Panama Service Project Santiago or Penonomé experience, you can be sure of one thing - you're in for a lot of learning and fun! As a member of a group dedicated to nurse malnourished children back to health, a family, and a community, you'll find out what it means to help others, give of yourself and your time, and really feel at home in a different country and culture.
While you are sharing in your host family's daily routines, experiencing Panama’s history and culture, interacting with the children at Nutre Hogar and taking part in group activities and excursions, you'll be making new friends, learning the language, and getting more out of life than you ever imagined.
The benefits of the Santiago program include being in a large group, working in shifts at Nutre Hogar, having the option to help at Ofrece un Hogar (orphanage), the option to visit a remote mountain community center to see how they are working to combat poverty and hunger, participating in an extreme trek through the jungle and cliff jumping in Santa Fe, and going to a grade school for a folklore presentation.
The Penonomé program benefits include a small, intimate group experience, working together at Nutre Hogar in the mornings, a challenging trek through the jungle to a waterfall, making typical handicrafts, experiencing the national pollera contest, soaking in nearby thermal baths and extra trips to the beach.
Both programs include colloquial Spanish language instruction, a day at an indigenous village near Panama, a visit to the Panama Canal, an educational charla with doctors, physical therapists and counselors who work with Nutre Hogar, excursions to nearby towns and sights and a dance party at a host home with the PSP group and host brothers and sisters.
Whether you choose the Santiago or Penonomé program you will never forget the discoveries you make and the relationships you form while working with the malnourished children at Nutre Hogar and living with a host family in another country.
